Fuck Britney.

Why all the news coverage of this dingbat?  She’s having a public meltdown, true that.  But she’s richer than you and me and can afford the best doctors, therapists and medication available.  She is her own worst enemy, I will shed no tears for her self induced immolation.

Day after day, I deal with families in real crisis.  People who are raising children with multiple disabilities while they fight the school system, insurance companies, as well as  dodging the day to day land mines that come with being a parent with a special needs child.

Where the hell is Dr. Phil for these folks?  Where it the public outcry over the hurdles these folks face on a daily basis?  Hey Tom Cruise, you claim that you and your crazy Scientology buddies are here to assist?  Great - how about providing some services to the parents of a 25 year old Autistic man who weighs 250 lbs and  is physically abusive?  How about watching him for the night so Mom and Pop can get a well needed break?  Yeah, lets see if some of L. Ron’s mumbo jumbo works while you are trying to get out of a headlock by that Autistic man.

Xmas Dysfunction Officeland Style

So today was to have been the holiday luncheon for my group.  Yesterday, several of us were told that our invitation had been revoked.

The fuck you say!

It seems that with all of the supervisory tomfoolery that has occurred lately, those of us who were with out any real supervision (as if we needed any) for five months, are no longer welcome at the holiday luncheon as our supervisor is now back.  Of course, our boss has other things on his minds so he has to have yet decided on anything.

Now, I normally don’t care much for office holiday gettogethers.  But this is just absurd.  There is a principal involved - I mean having your invitation “canceled” at the last minute is pretty tacky (in my book at least).  So of course I was asked to talk to the boss and see if I could find out what we are doing for the holidays.

Here’s what my boss said to me.

“Oh, we’ll discuss that at our next staff meeting”.

Said staff meeting is to be held on Thursday, December 20th.  The second to the last working day before Xmas.

I guess last minute surprises are fun.

Still you would not believe how personally some people are taking this!  I suggested (to calm some down) that our little group just all go our for breakfast next week and come back to the office in time for lunch and let it go at that.

We shall see.

Nonetheless, it is Friday, more snow is due, and life is good.

World War Z and Wrong Turns

My partner recently bought me the audio book version of “World War Z’.

W.W.Z, for those of you who are not familiar, is an ‘oral history’ of the zombie wars that happened several years back in America.  Of course it is fiction.  I read the book a few years ago and really enjoyed it, but this audio version is outstanding with everyone from Alan Alda to Henry Rollins playing certain characters in it.

The author of the book is one, Max Brooks; son of Anne Bancroft and Mel Brooks.

His first book was the tongue in cheek, “Zombie Survival Guide”.  Obviously, the son of Anne and Mel has a thing for flesh-eating-ghouls.  He also has his father’s sense of humor (though it is much more sly and less obvious - probably something his mother passed on to him).

Anyway, the point to all of this is:  I began listening to the audio book while driving here to work this morning and realized something.  If you are really, REALLY, enjoying the audio book that your hearing, and are paying attention to it - you might miss your turn.

And that’s what I did.  Missed one of my turns and had to go a few miles out of my way to get back on track — plus the traffic this morning, damn.

Anyway this zombie made it here today, and it is kind of quiet here at the Officeland Grave Yard - tomorrow is Election Day, state offices closed, so a lot of folks have taken the day off to make a four day weekend.

Oh well, hope you all have a great day, and no ghoul stories have you make a wrong turn.

Back in Black

I am wearing black today in support of the Jena 6.

Don’t worry if you have no idea what the Jena 6 is since the news today is more concerned with O.J. and Brit how can you expect them to have time to report on this racially charged story out of Louisiana.

Several employees are in black today. So far, only two of them (myself included) are not African American.

OK, so, that’s that. Now, I have some work to do.

Ayn Rand Shrugged

I woke this morning to no electricity; it seems that a tractor trailer plowed into some wire poles not far from where I live, knocking out power, as well as tying up traffic.

Yup,  the drive to work was even more exciting than normal since both ends of the highway near my place were closed off.  I eventually found a back road and made my way to Officeland.

Happily, it seems kind of dead in here today, so there’s that.  I think a lot of people signed up for a seminar of some sort.

In other work related news, did you know that Ayn Rand’s cock-eyed work of fiction, Atlas Shrugged, is considered one of the most influential business books of all time?  LINK HERE

That would explain the big business mentality, and the “Me First” state of mind so prevalent in the working world today.

I wonder what Ayn would think about my job.  Would social work be something she’d frown upon, or would she just shrug?

Oh well, I’ve got work to do.

Cake or Death

Cake, brownies and soda - one half hour before lunch - was the foodstuffs used to see off Joey B. today.

I abstained from the cake until just after lunch time when I had the smallest little bit (it was nothing to write home about).  But now I am tired and can’t keep my eyes open (stupid sugar rush crash).  Am drinking some coffee, but I have no motivation.  I just feel like leaving.

I should have picked death.

Back At Officeland -II

It has to be the nicest day of the Summer - and of course, I am stuck here at my desk.  Went outside a few minutes ago: just sublime today.

Several of us might sneak out at lunch and go see The Simpson’s movie.

In the mean time, I have to plow through all of my new paperwork and listen to my new calls … ah the life of a civil servant.
